Rest is personal

Rest, renewal, rejuvenation…What is that for you?  I think many of us hear rest and immediately think of sleep, laying around, or doing nothing.  At times, that is what we need.  Other times, recharging our batteries (rest) may be more active like a round of golf, games with friends, or a walk with the dog.  We hear rest and immediately think sedentary when in reality it is about renewal and rejuvenation or like I said earlier, recharging our batteries.  We each have the activities, situations, and environments that do it for us.  Some people may see your rejuvenating activity as draining, and you may be drained by another’s energizing environment.  That is ok.  Our rest is personal to each of us.  What is universal is the need for recharging in our lives to keep from burning out in our sports careers and beyond.  Do you know what the activities, situations, and environments are that bring you renewal?  Have those changed for you over time or do you expect any will change as you transition out of your competitive playing career?  Remember, often, you may not have tried a lot of activities outside of sport with your focus on your sports career.  Now you have more time to explore new interests.
