Hail Mary
Last week, the Commanders were the most recent NFL team to complete a Hail Mary to win a game. The play is exciting and keeps the tension through the final whistle. The Hail Mary is also named after a prayer for a reason. It is a last ditch effort and a near miracle to work as intended.
Have you noticed yourself throwing up Hail Marys lately, or at another time, in your life. Why do you do that? Sometimes, I catch myself doing that. Often, it stems from either procrastination or a lack of preparation. The Hail Mary acts as a sort of comfort zone where the last minute effort and reduced likelihood of success relieves pressure and responsibility in a misguided way. In life, do you want the ball in your hand with a strong influence on winning or losing or are you ok with throwing it up and hoping it lands just right? Even when you justify it in the moment, a Hail Mary that results from lack of planning, preparation, and effort, results in more questions than solid and confident progress.
